1. Who is Keep A Breast (KAB)?
The Keep A Breast Foundation (KAB) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission is to reduce breast cancer risk and its impact globally through art, education, prevention, and action. Keep A Breast was founded by Shaney jo Darden and Mona Mukherjea-Gehrig in 2000, as a way to creatively raise awareness for breast cancer by making artistic breast casts in honor of their friend Margaret Kilgallen who was diagnosed with breast cancer. 2. What is the Keep A Breast (KAB) Check Yourself Program?
The Check Yourself Program was created to increase awareness about the significance of performing a monthly self-check, since they frequently encounter young women who “unknowingly” discovered lumps both benign and malignant on their bodies. Check Yourself anticipates that by doing a monthly self- check, more individuals will notice changes in their bodies sooner, seek medical help, and possibly discover cancer earlier.
Additionally, the Keep A Breast app focuses on information, support, and, most importantly, access by connecting users who think they may have discovered something during their check with a telehealth medical professional via their partnership with Carbon Health. This means you’ll have direct, instantaneous support in the case you find something that is not normal to your self-check.
3. What is the Fit 4 Prevention Program?
Fit 4 Prevention as a national movement to educate about breast cancer prevention through fitness and wellness. The goal is to inspire people to reduce their risk of cancers by adopting a healthier, more active lifestyle. Over 1,500 Studios, gyms, and fitness locations have participated each October (Breast Cancer Prevention Month) since 2016. Anyone can participate by hosting a donation-based activity benefiting The Keep A Breast Foundation™.
4. Why are we excited to partner with Keep A Breast (KAB)?
Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women in the U.S. and we probably all know someone who has been diagnosed with it. This year it hit particularly close to home when Po Campo’s Founder Maria Boustead was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer. She thankfully found the lump herself when it was itty bitty, and relied on her bike to keep her active and happy during treatment.
KAB’s focus on early detection and the importance of fitness for prevention hit home for us and we are proud to support them and their amazing work this month!
5. Why are they excited to be partnering with us?
Keep A Breast is proud to partner with Po Campo because their favorite fitness activities take place outdoors. They love working with women owned businesses and Po Campo’s commitment to working with charities 24/7 is so meaningful.
